Tom brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to Haynes Benefits – more than 40 years of it.  Tom advised and assisted plan sponsors regarding the establishment, operation, and termination of employee benefit and executive compensation plans.  He dealt with all types of employee benefit plans, including:

  • Pension plans
  • Profit sharing plans
  • 401(k) plans
  • Stock bonus plans
  • Employee stock ownership plans
  • Supplemental executive retirement and nonqualified deferred compensation plans
  • Group health
  • Life insurance
  • Long-term disability
  • Other group welfare benefit plans

Well versed in the needs of clients of varying sizes and industries, Tom not only assisted with day-to-day administration of employee benefit plans, he also represented employers undergoing complex mergers and acquisitions.  This involved:

  • Drafting plan documents
  • Employee communication
  • I.R.C. Section 401(a) determination applications and the resolution of disputes on behalf of employers with the Internal Revenue Service, U.S. Department of Labor and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation

Tom is a Fellow of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel.  A graduate of William Jewell College, Tom received his law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and was licensed to practice in Missouri.  The list of industry organizations that Tom was involved with was an extensive one, but to name a few, he was affiliated with the American Benefits Council and formerly served as a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) instructor.
