An expert in employee benefits and employment and labor law, Bob puts his 30 years of experience to work for the clients of Haynes Benefits.  Bob’s focus is on the design and interpretation of 401(k), 403(b), 457(b), pension, profit sharing, deferred compensation, and Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs).  He also helps design and draft health, cafeteria and other employee benefit plans. Bob counsels employers and trustees regarding fiduciary responsibilities, plan compliance issues and other ERISA and IRS requirements.  And he works with employers, third party administrators, investment advisors, brokers, plan auditors and other plan consultants.  Bob has assisted numerous clients with DOL and IRS investigations and has successfully resolved those investigations.  He has also prepared numerous submissions under both the IRS and DOL voluntary compliance programs.

Bob also assists clients with human resources compliance matters, wage and hour, and FMLA issues.  His extensive background also encompasses labor negotiations and multi-employer benefit plan matters, including withdrawal liability and other pension funding issues.

Prior to becoming a principal with Haynes Benefits, Bob was a partner in a national law firm (ranked in the top 150 law firms by the National Law Journal).  Bob graduated from Phillips University and graduated second in his law school class from Washburn University Law School.  He is the former chairperson for the Employee Benefits Committee for the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association. An author of numerous articles, Bob frequently conducts training seminars and workshops on employee benefits and HR compliance topics.
